Pregnancy and birth is definitely a huge passion in my life! I have been a childbirth educator for about 20 years; initially with ICEA and now with Lamaze International. In the past, I have taught childbirth classes at two local hospitals, but now teach childbirth classes privately and enjoy getting to know expectant parents on an individual basis.
Becoming a birth doula was another important step in my journey and I have been certified since 1995. As a birth doula, I have supported over 300 families during labor in the last 16 years. Another rewarding part of sharing this passion for pregnancy and birth has been in training other birth doulas. I have trained approximately 400 doulas in the last eleven years as an approved DONA trainer. In the past, I also served on the Board of Directors of DONA International for 5 years; first as the NE US Director and later as the Director of Certification.
I have been writing about pregnancy and birth topics for many years. My articles have appeared in magazines such as Childbirth Instructor and Chesapeake Family as well as online at About.com. I have been a Feature Writer for Pregnancy & Childbirth since 2006 and to date have published over 500 articles. In 2009, I co-wrote a book on pregnancy called The Knack Pregnancy Guide available on Amazon and in many bookstores.
I truly believe that pregnancy has the ability to be a life-changing event in the lives of expectant parents today!
